The Center on Finance, Law & Policy is pleased to welcome Fulbright Fellow Mandira Sarma as a Fulbright Visiting Professor for a six month term beginning January 2020.
Dr. Sarma is Associate Professor at Centre for International Trade and Development, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi, India. Dr. Sarma teaches courses on Statistical and Econometric Methodologies at the Masters and Ph.D. levels, while her research interest is in the area of financial economics, including financial inclusion, banking sector policies and capital markets. Besides teaching and providing research guidance, she has several well-cited academic publications to her credit.
As part of Fulbright Fellowship, Dr. Sarma is working on a research study that aims to compare specific banking sector policies in India and the United States of America from the perspective of inclusive finance. Dr. Sarma's fellowship advances the Center on Finance, Law & Policy's work on economic inclusion in emerging markets, most notably undertaken now as part of its Central Bank of the Future research project.
Sarma is a Master of Science in Statistics from Gauhati University, Guwahati, India and a Ph.D. in Economics from Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research, Mumbai, India. After receiving her PhD degree, she worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the Eindhoven University, the Netherlands. Prior to joining her current job, she worked as a Senior Fellow at Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), a premier think tank based in Delhi, India. She was also a Visiting Scientist for a short period at the Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi, India.
