Christopher Calabia
F. Christopher Calabia is the Senior Advisor for Supervisory and Regulatory Policy, Financial Services for the Poor, at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Chris leads the Foundation’s global efforts to promote a regulatory framework that enables digital financial inclusion. He also oversees grants into policy and technological innovations that may help central banks and supervisors to promote financial inclusion, stability, integrity, and consumer protection in lower-and middle-income economies. Previously he was a Senior Vice President and Banking Supervisor at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, where he worked for 25 years.
He was seconded to the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision at the Bank for International Settlements from 2003 to 2005 and separately to the International Monetary Fund in 2016 to co-lead the evaluation of U.K. supervisory authorities’ compliance with Basel Committee standards. He is a certified anti-money laundering specialist.
