Debotri Dhar
Dr. Debotri Dhar earned a Bachelors in Economics (Hons.) from SRCC, Delhi University (India), a Masters in Women’s Studies, with distinction, from Oxford University (UK), and Ph.D in Women's and Gender Studies from Rutgers University (USA). As a faculty affiliate at the Center for Finance, Law and Policy, she is interested in the interdisciplinary intersections between Women’s and Gender Studies, South Asian and American Studies, and Policy, with particular attention to gender-based violence and policy approaches to women’s economic, financial, educational and socio-legal inclusion/well-being. Dr. Dhar has authored articles, book chapters, and edited volumes such as Education and Gender (Bloomsbury: London, New York, New Delhi), and her new book on sexual violence, suicide, and the postcolonial Indian state is forthcoming from Routledge (London, New York, New Delhi). At Michigan, she currently teaches two electives: Sexual Violence and the State: Global Perspectives and Women and Well-Being in Literature. Dr. Dhar is also the faculty advisor for the Ford School of Public Policy Diplomacy Lab project on gender violence and technology, a U-M partnership with the US Department of State's Office of Global Collaborations.
