In April of 2013, former Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner visited the University of Michigan Law School for a roundtable conversation on how to advance academic research on the causes of financial crises, crisis prevention, and crisis response. Michigan Law Professor Michael Barr, now the Joan and Sanford Weill Dean of the Ford School of Public Policy, moderated the conversation, which laid the foundation to consolidate plans for a new Center on Finance, Law, and Policy. This May 14, 2018 marks the five year anniversary of the founding of the University of Michigan's Center on Finance, Law, and Policy. On that date, Michael Barr, along with Ross School faculty Dana Muir and Gretchen Spreitzer gathered together more than 40 faculty from across the University for a half-day Convening Conference to discuss ideas, goals, and new initiatives that the new Center might undertake -- with funding from our first donor, MCubed. Since that date, the Center has grown to include two staff members, 61 faculty affiliates, and 20 research assistants per semester. We have hosted large-scale conferences each year with the U.S. Office of Financial Research to bolster financial stability, engaged in cutting-edge interdisciplinary research, and launched an interdisciplinary clinic to support minority entrepreneurs in Detroit -- all while continuing to showcase the talents of University of Michigan faculty via our blue bag lunch talks. It would not be a party without you!
Please join us on May 14, 2018 for some cake and a poster-art exhibit to help celebrate our five year anniversary.
